Routine visa services have been suspended at all US Consulates across China effective December 15, 2022, due to a surge in COVID-19 infections in China.  

All regularly scheduled appointments at the Embassy and Consulates have been canceled. Applicants whose appointments were canceled will be contacted by a US Consulate in China. 

While it is unclear when routine visa services will reopen, the U.S. Mission to China has advised applicants for nonimmigrant visas to reschedule their appointments using the Department of State’s website, linked here. Immigrant visa applicants should contact the Immigrant Visa unit of the U.S. Mission to China using the form here.

The U.S. Embassy Beijing and U.S. Consulate General Shanghai will continue to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens, including passport services. The U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou, Shenyang, and Wuhuan, will remain open for emergency Consular services only. The U.S. Mission to China’s full announcement can be found here.
