USCIS Extends Validity Period for Receipt Notices for Conditional Permanent Residents
Effective September 4, 2021, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will issue receipt notices for petitions to remove conditions on permanent residence with a validity period of 24 months beyond the expiry of the conditional green cards. USCIS was previously issuing receipt notices valid for 18 months, but with processing times for both the Form I-751 and I-829 taking at least two years, USCIS has decided to extend the validity period of the receipt notices to 24 months.
Applicants should present these receipt notices with the expired conditional green card (Form I-551) as proof of employment authorization and for international travel. If an applicant has already filed his or her petition before September 4 and the petition is still pending, USCIS will issue a new receipt notice valid for 24 months past the expiration date of their conditional green card.
