Travelers from Brazil Banned Entry to the United States
In an ongoing effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, President Trump issued a Proclamation, indefinitely suspending the entry of travelers from Brazil to the United States. The travel ban takes effect tomorrow, May 28, 2020, at midnight.
The Scope of the Travel Ban from Brazil
The travel ban, which takes effect tomorrow, May 28, 2020, at midnight, applies to most individuals who were in Brazil within 14 days prior to their arrival in the United States. The basis for suspending admission of travelers from Brazil is the recent widespread surge of COVID-19 in Brazil. Brazil currently has the third highest number of confirmed cases globally.
The travel ban does not apply to the following categories of immigrants and nonimmigrants:
US citizens traveling from Brazil.
Lawful permanent residents.
Spouses and minor children of US citizens or lawful permanent residents.
Parents, legal guardians, or siblings of a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Children, foster children, or wards of US citizens or lawful permanent residents seeking entry to the US in IR-4 or IH-4 visa classifications.
Foreign nationals traveling at the invitation of the US government.
Foreign nationals traveling under a C-1, D, or C-1/D nonimmigrant visa.
Any alien traveling under A-1, A-2, C-2, C-3, E-1, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, NATO-1 through NATO-4, or NATO-6 visa classification.
Members of the Armed Forces and their spouses and children.
Any alien furthering US law enforcement objectives or whose entry would be in the national interest.
The travel ban will not apply to travelers flying to the US on flights that departed Brazil prior to midnight on May 28, 2020.
