Temporary Protected Status for Citizens of Yemen Extended

The Department of Homeland Security has decided to extend Temporary Protected Status (“TPS”) for nationals of Yemen for a period of eighteen months.  TPS designation for Yemen was scheduled to end on March 3, 2020. The DHS decision will extend it through September 3, 2021.

As a result, current Yemeni TPS beneficiaries may re-register for an extension of their TPS status with work authorization through August 30, 2021. The 60-day re-registration period runs from March 2, 2020 through May 1, 2020.

If a beneficiary’s current EAD has an expiration date of March 3, 2020 or they applied for a new EAD during the last re-registration period but have not yet received a new EAD card, then their EAD has been automatically extended and a new application is not required.

Employers of TPS beneficiaries from Yemen with extended TPS status will be required to update Section 2 of their employees’ I-9 forms. Please see DHS notice for relevant information for employers of TPS beneficiaries.
